    Album Description:

METAL HEALTH is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Quiet Riot. It was released on March 11, 1983, bolstered by the #5 hit "Cum on Feel the Noize" and the #31 hit "Metal Health". It knocked The Police's SYNCHRONICITY out of #1 in the U.S. The album went on to sell more than 6 million copies and it is considered a classic among heavy metal fans to this day. The title track was ranked #35 on Vh1's 40 Greatest Metal Songs.

The band went on a tour the same year and also supported Black Sabbath on their BORN AGAIN tour in the U.S. "Slick Black Cadillac" is a re-recorded version of the same song from QUIET RIOT II. The song "Thunderbird" was dedicated to guitarist and ex-member Randy Rhoads, who died in a plane crash on March 19, 1982.

In the late 1970's, bands such as Van Halen and Cheap Trick tempered hard rock riffs with pop melodies and pin-up boy good looks, resulting in big time success. With the advent of MTV in the early 1980's, groups such as Loverboy, Def Leppard, and especially Quiet Riot softened the sound even more, taking "pop metal" straight to the top of the charts. Both metalheads and popsters latched onto QR's sticky sweet hard rock, as METAL HEALTH became one of the biggest rock releases of 1983.

Success of the album is based on the strength of two shout-along anthems (a cover of Slade's "Cum on Feel the Noize" and QR's own riff-heavy title track) as well as several other winning numbers, such as the love song "Don't Want to Let You Go" and the charging "Slick Black Cadillac." Party hearty ditties "Breathless," "Run for Cover," and "Let's Get Crazy" are all solid fist wavers. METAL HEALTH, Quiet Riot's most consistent album, remains one of the better hard rock / metal albums to come out of the early-mid 1980's Los Angeles rock scene.

Quiet Riot: Kevin DuBrow (vocals, background vocals); Carlos Cavazo (guitar, background vocals); Frankie Banali (horns, drums, percussion, background vocals); Pat Regan (keyboards); Chuck Wright, Rudy Sarzo (bass guitar, background vocals); Donna Slattery, Spencer Proffer (background vocals).

Recorded at The Pasha Music House, Hollywood, California.
    Produced by Spencer Proffer.
