ASIA is the debut album by the progressive rock band Asia, released in 1982.
The album reached #1 in the U.S. on the Billboard album charts, and according to Billboard was the best-selling album in the United States for the year 1982. ASIA was certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA on February 10, 1995. The album contains the band's biggest hit and signature song, "Heat of the Moment", which reached #4 in the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Prog-rock fans everywhere got very excited when they found out that ex-members of such bands as Yes (guitarist Steve Howe and keyboardist Geoff Downes), King Crimson (bassist/vocalist John Wetton), and ELP (drummer Carl Palmer) were forming a supergroup, Asia. The quartet surprisingly crossed over to the more mainstream pop audience with no problem upon release of its self-titled debut. Time and again here, each member shows his mastery of his respective instrument. ASIA is chock full of compositions showcasing the quartet's keen pop sensibilities such as laid back "Only Time Will Tell."
