  1. Ozzmosis (1995) (EPIC RECORDS) (10 TRACKS)
    Ozzy Osbourne

    Album Description:

OZZMOSIS is the seventh studio album by English heavy metal musician Ozzy Osbourne. Released on 24 October 1995, the album reached number 22 on the U.K. Albums Chart and number four on the American Billboard 200 albums chart. OZZMOSIS was certified 2x Platinum in the U.S. with sales at over 2,000,000 copies.

Record producer Michael Wagener, who worked on Osbourne's 1991 sixth studio album NO MORE TEARS, was initially chosen by Epic Records to produce OZZMOSIS, though was later replaced with Michael Beinhorn, Zakk Wylde, Mike Inez, James Lomenzo, and Randy Castillo were all brought in for the recording sessions. Sometime after the sessions with Wagener, Inez and Castillo were replaced with Osbourne's former Black Sabbath band mate, Geezer Butler (who had recently left Black Sabbath after a major falling out with Tony Iommi) and Deen Castronovo. Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman was also brought in as a session musician for the recording of the album. For the subsequent RETIREMENT SUCKS TOUR, however, the band included guitarist Joe Holmes and bassist Robert Trujillo.

    Music:

Heavy, riff-intensive tunes, progressive song structures and a little psychedelia give OZZMOSIS a definite Sabbath flavor. Ozzy must have been in touch with whatever inspired early classics like PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY. Heavy metal daddy is in touch with his roots and hip to the genre's latest sound. OZZMOSIS has a live, up-front feeling. Zakk Wylde's huge, raw guitar also plays a major role. He provides scorching solos, lush textures and juicy fills with a muscular tone and minimal effects - the perfect complements to Osbourne's songwriting. But more important than the raging guitars and the big sound is attitude. Ozzy's spunk has indeed rejected retirement. His songs still spew biting commentary at whoever will listen. "Your bulls**t culture licking can't stop the deathwatch ticking/You're only mortal after all," he warns on "Thunder Underground." Ozzy himself may not be immortal, but OZZMOSIS sounds like it is.

Personnel: Ozzy Osbourne (vocals); Zakk Wylde (guitar); Rick Wakeman, Michael Beinhorn (keyboards); Geezer Butler (bass); Deen Castronovo (drums).

Recorded at Guillaume Tell Studios, Paris, France, Right Track Recording and Electric Lady Studios, New York & Bearsville Studios, Woodstock, New York.

    Produced by Michael Beinhorn.
